Kiddie game? Check. Relatively easy achievements? Check. Cartoon characters mixed with sports figures to appeal to the masses?
Nicktoons MLB is yet another quick completion that may appeal to your inner child. Combining TV’s top cartoon characters of Nickelodeon with the best Major League Baseball players in the game today on the same team does take a little getting used to. In fact, my batting average suffered immensely whenever a ‘toon tossed it, yet whenever a human pitched, I crushed it.
Obviously, this game is aimed at the pre-teen crowd, attempting to get them interested in team sports (and possibly video games, as well). There’s not a lot gained from playing this game… except a lot of Gamerscore.
Achievement Hunters: Take note!
With all the proper settings aligned, an average video game player can easily attain almost 400 Gamerscore points within one game. And with minimal skill, the game can easily be completed within six hours.
This fact alone was enough for me to give it a try. Pitching is a breeze, but I often fell into dry-spells at the plate.
Also noteworthy: This game is playable with the Kinect, although it is not necessary.
If you’re a sports fan who’s an achievement hunter, this is a must rent! There’s no need to buy this game unless you pick it up for $5.00, as I did. If you can rent it for a two-night max at Redbox, Gamefly or Netflix, go for it. Worst-case scenario: you’ll rent the game for two nights and rack up a majority of the achievements. There’s only a few that gave me any problems, including One Man Wrecking Crew, Twice As Nice and A Full Deck.
So, if you like sports, cartoons and relatively easy achievements, Nicktoons MLB is definitely up your alley.
Strength: Easy achievements. Period.
Weakness: Terribly annoying announcers and repetitive AI.
WTF Moment: Habitual steroid users Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun are featured. Drugs are bad, OK?
