Per Matt:
This weekend was monumental, in Middle Tennessee. Saturday, October 13th was marked as World Zombie Day and to kick off festivities, hordes of the undead descended upon downtown for the Nashville Zombie Walk 2012.
As an annual tradition, many people gather for photos while dressed as zombies, before walking the streets of downtown Nashville as an undead mob. And to top it off, the all-ages event was totally free, while asking participants to make a donation of non-perishable food items to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
The crowd was great. The costumes were great. The atmosphere was great… albeit a tad warm. I was afraid there would be lots of makeup dripping with sweat from the undead minions, but everyone took the heat in stride.
I didn’t manage to make the walk through downtown, as I had other plans, and I heard there was an after-party event as well, titled Burlesque Spooktacular. Wish I could’ve gotten some photos of that!
After the horde lumbered out of Riverfront Park, I scored an interview with Nashville Zombie Walk organizer, Steven “Zot” Unverzagt. In it, he discusses the Zombie Walk, as well as his plans as the Vice President and Executive Director of Geek Media Expo Vol. 4, also to be held in Nashville on October 26 – 28. It’s a great time to be a geek in Nashville!
