If you’ve ever attended the Nashville Film Festival before, you already know that this is a week-long celebration of film, music and culture. And if you don’t know much about the big event, you might not know about all of the in-depth conversations with filmmakers, professional development industry panels, social-networking events, parties and so much more that happens throughout its scheduled timeline.
From September 19th through the 25th, the 55th Nashville Film Festival will present more than 150 films from around the world, including quite a few worldwide premieres, as well as the NashFilm Creators Conference. Individual film and event tickets are currently on sale, as well as VIP badges, which is the recommended way to experience the full festival!

In addition to the full slate of programming available, five newly announced titles have been confirmed to screen at the upcoming festival. The 2024 Centerpiece Presentation will be Sony Pictures Entertainment’s highly anticipated Saturday Night, directed by Jason Reitman and written by Gil Kenan and Reitman. I have read so much online buzz about this film and having already been a fanboy of Reitman’s past works, as well as the early days of SNL, I simply cannot wait to see this release and truly hope to be able to attend its world premiere!
“The diversity in this year’s lineup, from comedy to drama to suspense, ensures the 55th festival has something for every film aficionado, and we are immensely proud of the selection we are able to bring to Nashville audiences this year,” declared Lauren Thelen, Programming Director of NashFilm.
Other recently announced additions to the festival include My Old Ass written/directed by Megan Park featuring Aubrey Plaza, Superboys of Malegaon from Amazon MGM Studios, Unstoppable, a biographical sports drama produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, and Amber Alert, by Lionsgate Films, which will be followed by a post-screening Q&A from Director Kerry Ballessa.
Many of the film screenings for the festival will take place at three premier arts venues, including the Belcourt Theatre, Regal Green Hills and the historic Franklin Theatre, among others. The NashFilm Creators Conference of industry panels and events will be hosted at the Hilton Green Hills (3801 Cleghorn Avenue, Nashville, TN) from Sept. 20th through 22nd.
In addition to more than 150 movie titles, NashFilm will screen the “Best of the Fest,” with winning films from each category selected by the esteemed juries and the audience awards voted on by NashFilm attendees, based on the films they enjoyed most, including: New Directors Feature, Documentary Feature, Music Documentary Feature, Narrative Feature, Spotlight Feature, Tennessee Feature, Music Video, Episodic and Short Film winners.

There’s a lot of great options for the fickle movie fanatic at this year’s fest, but for my money, I’m most interested in the music and the monsters! Sure, Nashville’s unofficial nickname is “Music City,” so this is the perfect venue to provide some in-depth documentaries featuring some of the world’s best musicians and singers, including Devo, Rebel Country, Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan and Sara, Melissa Etheridge: I’m Not Broken and This is a Film About The Black Keys. But then there’s the Graveyard Shift, which includes the horror features of Catch a Killer, Haze and Little Bites. That’s a whole lot of great options to choose from.
It’s gonna be a wild and busy week in Middle Tennessee!
Originally founded in 1969, the Nashville Film Festival, a globally recognized nonprofit organization and cultural event presenting the best in world cinema, American independent films and documentaries by veteran masters, up-and-coming directors, and first-time filmmakers, is one of the first film festivals in the United States that celebrates innovation, music, and the many voices of the human spirit through the art of film.
