The nominations are in and Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood leads the way for the Music City Film Critics in 2019.

The Music City Film Critics’ Association announced its nominees for the Music City Film Critics’ Association 2019 Film Awards and Quentin Tarantino’s penultimate film leads all nominations with nine, including Best Picture, Best Director – Quentin Tarantino and Best Supporting Actor – Brad Pitt, among others.

The association is comprised of 30 professional film critics who live and work in or around Nashville, TN. The group’s winners will be announced on January 10, 2020.

“This was a great year for great films across all genres and styles. Our list of Best Picture nominees includes mega-blockbusters on the big screen, indie films, a foreign language film, movies from streaming platforms and a documentary. It is going to be a very difficult process trying to pick the winners this year, because we have so many deserving nominees in all categories,” declared MCFCA President Clint Redwine.

Following the nominations of Once Upon a Time are Parasite with eight nominations and 1917, The Irishman and Jojo Rabbit all tied with seven noms. Scarlett Johansson received two acting nominations. She is nominated for Best Actress for her work in Marriage Story, and for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Jojo Rabbit.

With their nominations, the Music City Film Critics’ Association also released their Top 10 films of the 2010s, which are listed in alphabetical order:

  • Birdman (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
  • Boyhood
  • Get Out
  • Joker
  • La La Land
  • Mad Max: Fury Road
  • Moonlight
  • Roma
  • The Social Network
  • The Tree Of Life

As a first-time member of the Music City Film Critics’ Association, I really enjoyed the opportunities the group received, in terms of celebrating cinema last year. I was already attending local movie screenings in Middle Tennessee, but with the creation of the association, we have really caught the attention of multiple movie studios and 2020 looks to be an even bigger year for our group. I’m excited to be a MCFCA member and hopeful that we’ll get even more recognition next year.
